1. Your privacy

Foodways takes the protection of personal data extremely seriously.

This Privacy Policy applies only to the Waste Tracker app (the “App”). Other privacy policies may apply to servers or websites belonging to third parties. Foodways bears no responsibility or liability for the observance of data protection by third parties.

Foodways commits to handling your personal data properly and to processing it only for the purposes for which we have informed you it will be used. Foodways will not use your data for any purposes other than those specified and set out by law. We explain below which data Foodways collects and how this data is processed and used.

2. Data collection

Personal data is collected and used by Foodways only to the extent necessary to perform the services described in the App.

Users are required to enter their name, an e-mail address and a password to register and create an account.

The app also provides the ability to create a profile. The profile stores the following data:

  • Business name

  • Location of the business

  • Business type

If you want to customize or delete this data, you can do so in the profile section of the App at any time.

Users are also asked to provide the following information.

  • Daily sales on each day measured

  • The number of guests on each day measured (premium users only)

This data will be used to generate the reports which provide users with an overview of their food waste.

You can update or delete your data at any time by overwriting the saved data in the respective measurement period or by deleting your account.

Foodways may also collect additional non-personal or company-specific data entered into the Waste Tracker by users. This data will be anonymised and aggregated and it will not be possible to identify specific users or companies from this data.

3. Storage of collected data

Foodways takes the necessary precautions to protect collected personal data from loss, theft and misuse. Collected data is stored locally on the user's smartphone and stored on a Digital Ocean server in Frankfurt, Germany. The transfer of data between the App and the Digital Ocean server is encrypted. 4. Purpose of the data collection

Personal data collected by the App will be used exclusively for the purposes mentioned in this privacy policy. These purposes are to:

  • tailor users’ in app experience

  • evaluate how users use the App

  • improve the Waste Tracker and associated products 

  • identify sector trends and benchmarks

  • better respond to additional support needs

  • provide better customer support

Anonymised data may be passed on to our partners and used only for these purposes. It is not possible to use anonymised data to identify individual users.

5. Analytics

Foodways uses Google Firebase to collect anonymised tracking data. When using Google Firebase, no personal information is collected. More information about Google Firebase can be found at The anonymised tracking data will only be used for the purposes specified in this privacy policy.

6. Passing on data to third parties

Without your explicit consent or a legal obligation, Foodways does not pass on personal or company data to third parties e.g. to companies that are not partners of Foodways. In accordance with applicable data protection laws and their contract with Foodways, our partners are contractually obliged to handle your data carefully and not to use the information for their own purposes or to pass it on to third parties. Data will only be disclosed to government agencies if required by law.

7. Retention and deletion of your data

We will only store your data for as long as we need it to provide you with access to the App. Each user can delete their Waste Tracker account via the profile tab. If you select this option, all of your data will be deleted.  Please note that after deletion of your personal data from our systems, you may no longer be able to make use of the services offered by Foodways, including the App.

8. Your Rights

Users have the right at any time to obtain free information on whether and which of their personal data has been collected and processed by Foodways. Furthermore, the user can revoke the consent to process his personal data at any time. When a user requests that their data be deleted, Foodways will respond to this request within 30 days. When responding to a request for information or deletion of personal data, Foodways reserves the right to request proof of identity.

9. Amendments 

Foodways reserves the right to amend this Privacy Policy at any time. The user will be informed about any such changes by email or when opening the App and will always be given the opportunity to agree to the changes.
